Additional Important Information for International Flights
Air Astana tries to make the carriage of pets as simple as possible. However, the legislation covering the transportation of animals can vary from country to country. If you are travelling from the Republic of Kazakhstan to/from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates you cannot carry pets in the passenger cabin. This means that all animals, irrespective of their size, can travel only in the cargo compartment of the aircraft. Please note that you cannot transport animals to (from) India too. The United Kingdom is also one of the countries you cannot transport animals to.
Limitation on Number of Pet Units by Aircraft Type
Pets are carried as follows in the Air Astana scheduled traffic. The limitations on number of pet units by aircraft type:
A319, A320, A321, B757, B767
AVIH (animals transported as baggage in the cargo holds)
For AVIH the maximum weight is 50 kg including the weight of the container. Animals exceeding this weight limit shall be shipped as cargo under Air Waybill. Pets over 40 kg can only be carried in strong wooden containers.
For AVIH a maximum of two animals of comparable size up to 14 kg each, that are used to cohabitation, may be shipped in the same container. Animals over 14 kg travel individually. Animals up to six months old from the same litter, up to a maximum quantity of three, may be shipped in the same container.
Finally, please note that not all aircraft in Air Astana’s fleet are suitable for the transportation of animals in the cargo compartments. For example, the Airbus 320 aircraft does not have heating facilities within the cargo hold of the aircraft, so Air Astana will be unable to carry your pet in the cargo hold of this specific aircraft type. Please ask your travel agent to confirm the type of aircraft which will be operated before booking your and your pet’s transportation.
You will be asked to pay the charge for pets’ carriage both in cabin and in baggage compartment (including the weight of the container) at the check-in. The fare is calculated from the excess baggage tariff per 1 kilo multiplied by 2 which depends on the route (destination) you are travelling on. You may check excess
baggage fares information on our website at Excess Baggage Rates.
