1. How
can I find out how much baggage allowance I will have and how much hand baggage
I can carry?
Baggage allowances vary
depending on your class of travel. Typically, each Business Class passenger has
an allowance of 30 kg, whilst each Economy Class passenger has an allowance of
20 kg.

2. Can I
carry excess baggage?
Any passenger exceeding the checked baggage allowance per bag will be
charged for the excess weight at the applicable rate per kilo. Each piece of
baggage must not exceed 32 kg. Please note that where payload restrictions apply
the excess baggage will be offloaded first. For more details on excess baggage

3. What items are prohibited to
carry?
Security-type attaché cases, cash boxes, cash bags,
disabling devices (such as mace, pepper spray, etc), explosives,
ccompressed gases (incl. aerosols), flammable
liquids, substances with a high oxygen content, e.g. peroxides and bleaching
powder, toxic substances, radioactive substances, corrosive substances,
magnetic, harmful or malodorous substances and irritants. It is also forbidden
to carry firearms, replicas of weapons, daggers, flick knives
and other offensive looking articles on your person or in hand baggage. For

4. What do I do if my baggage did not arrive or is damaged?
If you find that your baggage did not arrive or is damaged,
please immediately contact the Air Astana staff or Lost and Found officer at
the airport. You will be given a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) and details
of your non-arrival or damaged bag will be entered in the WorldTracer Baggage
System.

number on the PIR to check if there is any update on the tracing of your bag –

Please
note that in accordance with the Warsaw Convention, supplemented by The Hague
Protocol, the liability limit for loss, delay, or damage is US$20.00 per kilo
for checked baggage. If the content of a bag is defined as “valuable baggage”
it is recommended to insure the baggage.
Please
be aware that Air Astana assumes no liability for fragile, valuable or
perishable articles. Broken glass containers and liquid spills inside a
suitcase are generally not the responsibility of the airline, so care should be
taken by passengers when packing baggage for a journey by air. Due to safety measures, cash, business
documents, jewelry, silverware, personal medicines, cameras, laptop computer
and mobile phones cannot be transported as checked baggage and should be
carried with the passenger on the plane.
Air
Astana, like most major airlines, assumes no liability for damage to checked
baggage such as broken wheels of feet, lost pull straps, damage to baggage
handles and minor damages such as scratches, scuff, stains, dent, cuts, and
dirt resulting from normal wear and tear.
5. What do I do if I need to make a baggage claim?
Checked baggage will be delivered to the bearer of the baggage check. In
the event of damage to baggage during international transportation, a complaint
must be made in writing to the carrier as soon as possible after discovery of the
damage and, at the latest, within 7 days of receipt. In the event of delay,
complaint must be made within 21 days of the date the baggage was delivered.
In the event of damage, non-arrival or pilferage to baggage during domestic
transportation, a complaint must be made in writing to the carrier
immediately. The carrier should fill in a document Property Irregularity
Report in the passenger’s presence.
All documents confirming the right of the passenger
to claim – including ticket, baggage payment receipt, tear-off part from
baggage tag, copy of Property Irregularity Report (PIR) – shall be attached to

6. Can I bring my sports equipment?
You cantravel with sports equipment such as skis,
snowboard, canoe, bicycle, golf equipment and diving equipment. They can be
carried as checked-in baggage. Please note that some of
these items require pre-booking. If you want to transport sports

7. Can
I check-in a musical instrument or purchase an extra seat to carry it in the
cabin?
If
you are going to travel with a musical instrument such as a violoncello or
contrabass an extra seat should be ordered for it. The maximum weight per seat is 75 kg; maximum size is 120 x 50 x 30 cm.
Guitars, saxophones or the similar-sized
musical instruments are transported as checked baggage in the cabin. For fragile
items (max 75 kg and 120 x 50 x 30 cm) an extra seat must be ordered.
Pre-booking is required.
8. Are there additional baggage allowances if I’m travelling with an infant?
There is no extra baggage allowance for
passengers travelling with an infant.
9. Are there any
specific baggage regulations?
If you are going to take with you any
special baggage such as:
- live animals
- equipment, technical
devises and apparatus
- vehicle spare parts
- perishable items, food
staff, plants
- medicines
- wheelchairs
- outsized and heavy items
- fragile items
Please
contact Air Astana Special Services in advance to get approval for carriage of
these items. This is in your interest, because you may not be allowed to carry
such baggage if you come to check-in without getting prior approval.
