    General Information

Air Astana recognizes the importance of being able to transport our customers’ pets on board our flights, whether it is to enjoy a brief family holiday with your furry friend or to re-locate the animal to its new home overseas. Our primary concern is to do so safely and as comfortably as possible.

Air Astana allows small cats, dogs, fish and turtles (up to 8 kg) to accompany the passenger in the cabin (PETC). When transporting live fish, please specify the number of fish, the container size and weight, as well as the total weight.

Cats and dogs with a weight of more than 8 kg can travel in the cargo compartments (AVIH) of the aircraft.

Birds and rodents cannot be transported in the aircraft cabin or within passengers’ registered luggage, but can be transported within the cargo hold of aircraft.
Please advise about your plans to transport animals so Air Astana can confirm it. Please send your notification of the intension to carry animals and fish on board Air Astana flights 24 hours in advance of your flight departure to either your travel agent or to the Air Astana Special Services desk (special.services@airastana.com).

Air Astana will do everything possible to make the transportation of pets as stress-free as possible. Air Astana would request, however, that customers do not present their pets at check-in without having made a preliminary booking for their transportation. Otherwise, we may not be able to carry your animal.

Please make sure that the container provided for the animal is strong enough so that the pet cannot escape during the journey. And it is also important that the container is durable with a leak-proof bottom and holes for feeding and ventilation. If the container has wheels, please remove them or render inoperable. Please ensure that the container is also large enough to permit the animal to stand upright and lie down comfortably in its natural position.

You will be asked to provide the following documents for transporting of pets:
    • Pet’s passport
    • Veterinary certificate
    • Micro chip or tattoo for pet identification (for European countries*)* This item 3 is not necessary for travelling in Kazakhstan or to Russia.
Please ensure to provide all the above required documentation when booking the transportation of your pet as this is mandatory for transportation.

Requirements for transportation of small fish:
    • Aquarium or a glass jar with a cover (with apertures for air) and a minimum quantity of water necessary for the wellbeing of the fish.  We cannot transport fish in open plastic bags, so please take this into consideration in order not be denied.

Additional Important Information for International Flights

Air Astana tries to make the carriage of pets as simple as possible. However, the legislation covering the transportation of animals can vary from country to country.

Passengers travelling from Republic of Kazakhstan to Dubai (United Arabian Emirates) are not allowed to carry pets neither in the cabin nor as registered luggage.

This means that all animals, irrespective of their size, can travel only in the cargo compartment of the aircraft.

Please note that you cannot transport animals to (from) India too. The United Kingdom is also one of the countries you cannot transport animals to.

Carrying live animals to/from India is prohibited. Carrying live animals to the Great Britain and Hong Kong is prohibited.
You are allowed to carry only cats and dogs to/from Malaysia & China (Urumqi, Beijing).

Some specific regulations also exist with regards to carrying animals to/from the Kingdom of Thailand:
