Air Astana
Dangerous Goods

It is important to know what goods you can travel with, and which ones are banned completely or restricted to either carry-on bags or checked-in luggage.

To prioritise the safety and security of all passengers, the transportation of specific items and substances is subject to restrictions. You will find a comprehensive list of commonly encountered items below, along with instructions on how to pack them.

List of Dangerous Goods
Explosives
Compressed gases (including aerosols)
Flammable liquids
Substances with a high oxygen content (e.g., peroxides and bleaching powder)

Carrying firearms, replica weapons, daggers, flick knives, or any other offensive-looking items on your person or in your hand luggage is strictly prohibited.

Additionally, the use of electrical devices that could interfere with the aircraft's radio and navigation equipment, such as radios and mobile telephones, is also forbidden.

Portable electronic smoking devices powered by batteries, including electronic cigarettes, electronic thin cigars, electronic cigars, electronic pipes, personal vaporisers, and electronic nicotine delivery systems, must be carried in hand baggage only and individually protected to prevent accidental activation.

Portable electronic devices (watches, calculators, cameras, cell phones, portable computers, video cameras, etc.) containing lithium or lithium-ion cells and spare batteries, with no more than two separately protected spare batteries per person. Each built-in or spare battery must meet the following requirements: for lithium metal batteries, the lithium content must not exceed 2g; or for lithium-ion batteries, the watt-hour rating must not exceed 100Wh.

Spare lithium batteries in carry-on baggage must be individually protected to prevent short circuits. This protection can be achieved by placing them in the original retail packaging or by insulating the terminals, e.g., by taping over exposed terminals or placing each battery in a separate plastic bag or protective pouch.

For portable electronic devices (including medical electronic devices) with batteries installed or with spare batteries that fall within the following criteria: lithium metal content ranging from 2 to 8 grams, or lithium-ion batteries with a watt-hour rating between 100 and 160 Wh, Air Astana approval is mandatory prior to being taken on board the aircraft. It's important to note that carrying such devices in your carry-on baggage is prohibited if they exceed the limits stated on this page. When transporting electronic portable devices with batteries in checked baggage, it is essential to take precautions to prevent their spontaneous activation.

You do not need to request permission from Air Astana to carry portable electronic devices with batteries installed or with spare batteries that meet the criteria for batteries outlined on this page.

In compliance with the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Republic of India, it is strictly prohibited to carry any form of electronic cigarettes or Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS) by passengers in any type of baggage, whether checked in, carried in hand luggage or sent as cargo to India. If such devices are discovered, they will be confiscated. Here is the link to the document containing more information on this matter.

Ensure a safe flight for yourself and others by conducting a final check of your suitcase's contents before you lock it. Remember, your commitment to safety begins from the moment you start packing.

Smart Baggage

Smart baggage refers to innovative baggage items (such as bags and suitcases) equipped with integrated lithium batteries, motors, GPS, GSM, Bluetooth, RFID, or Wi-Fi, and may also include lithium-ion battery power banks for charging electronic devices like mobile phones and gadgets. It is important to recognise that smart baggage can be potentially hazardous due to the presence of installed lithium batteries and electromagnetic field emissions, which may interfere with aircraft systems.

If you intend to bring this type of baggage on board, it is essential to ensure that all installed lithium batteries are removable. Prior to check-in, any such batteries must be removed, and all electronic items should be deactivated. The removed batteries should be taken into the cabin and carried solely as cabin baggage.

Baggage without batteries can be transported either as checked baggage or in the cabin, provided their dimensions (and quantity) comply with Air Astana's rules on carry-on baggage allowance.

The watt-hour rating of lithium-ion batteries must not exceed 100Wh/h unless approved by Air Astana, in which case it must not exceed 160Wh/h.

Air Astana retains the right to decline smart baggage with non-removable lithium batteries.
